Welcome message

It is a great pleasure to welcome the 7th WeGO General Assembly to São Paulo, as the event is held in Latin America for the first time. As one of WeGO’s founding cities, São Paulo is proud of the history of cooperation built since 2010 and delighted to open its doors to cities and partners from around the world.

Hosting this Assembly is an opportunity to share experiences, explore new solutions, and strengthen partnerships around a common challenge: ensuring that innovation and technology serve people. In a metropolis as large and diverse as São Paulo, building a smart city means using data, technology, and cooperation to expand access to public services, promote integration, enhance public safety, and deliver tangible improvements in people’s quality of life.

Cities are on the front lines of increasingly complex challenges, from mobility and climate change to digital inclusion, public safety, urban maintenance, and reducing inequalities. In this context, technology should be understood as a tool for making public administration more efficient and transparent, ensuring that the benefits of development reach every neighborhood and community.

This is precisely why cooperation among cities is so important. By sharing experiences, learning from different realities, and developing solutions together, we can make faster and more consistent progress. Networks such as WeGO play a fundamental role in bringing local governments together and creating concrete opportunities for international collaboration.

I wish everyone an excellent event. May these days in São Paulo be filled with meaningful dialogue, productive exchanges, and new partnerships as we work together to build increasingly smart, inclusive, safe, and people-centered cities.

A very warm welcome to São Paulo!

Ricardo Nunes
Mayor of São Paulo
